That's such a strange message for television. Maybe that's why people don't like the late seasons. Because we've been trained to expect a resolution that returns us to the status quo that existed before the conflict. But BtVS doesn't do that.
YES. YES. SO MUCH YES.
YOU SAY GOOD THINGS. I LIKE THEM.
This season, man. It's definitely the most powerful season in all of television for me. Which no doubt puts me in that ~special group, but meh. SEASON 6 FOREVAH!!11!1 indeed.
Rather, it's that she is not invulnerable. Her trauma sticks. She’s capable of being damaged immensely, and then dealing with it badly. She’s capable of wanting to give up on the world. She’s capable of being so angry at her friends she subconsciously wants to kill them. She’s capable of not being capable of ~bouncing back (a la season 3) after said immense trauma.
But SOLIDARITY on the later seasons making the show an all-time favourite. Totally.
I related to the adult Buffy more than to the high school Buffy. I found Willow a lot more interesting as she became a darker character.
Word.
I have a different reaction to Xander than a lot of people. I actually think he is portrayed in the early seasons as being very capable of douchetastic behaviour. It was actually what set him apart from all the other ~lovable geeks on TV for me. S6 just REALLY made his ugly side (and everyone's else's) explicit in a way that couldn't be ignored.
I think it was brilliant that the main villains for the most of the season were a trio of former high school outcasts/losers who couldn't cope with the real life and real relationships... while our protagonists, another trio of former high school outcasts trying to grow up (and left without their paternal figure for once), were struggling with their demons

You seriously reduce me to speechlessness. I have nothing to say/add. I just want to hang out in your journal and love what you love.
