Oh, you and your words. They fill my heart with glee. You are my favorite. And Spike is my favorite. And you and Spike together are my double favorite.
And Spike just turns (wheels) away and says, “Yeah. You’re a giver.” And that might be a totally insignificant moment, I don’t know, but it was the moment I sat up and went: HEY. I KNOW YOU. I KNOW YOU.
I love you for this. Because: YES. I don't know that it was that exact moment for me (but it may have been--it was definitely the S2 wheelchair period), but it was that exact sentiment. The sudden realization of a kinship, a familiarity with that character that stretches on and on in almost every direction.
Spike is a guy who - up until that very last scene in Grave - tries every day of his immortal existence to kill that (weak, uncertain, victimized) person inside that longs for goodness and beauty and truth. He gives up on the idea of achieving it soon after he’s turned, and focuses on achieving the other extreme instead. Better to destroy than create.
You should always have your feelings because they are always so on point. Spike is one of my favorite characters of all time and you perfectly summarized why.
Yay, I approve of this post! (I actually wrote a longer reply but lost it, that seems to be what I'm doing today, OH WELL I should get back to work now....)
Ha. Well, work is actually school, but with an office because being a grad student is awesome, except that you sometimes are expected to do stuff

except that you sometimes are expected to do stuff.
Yeah that's always aggravating.
I LOVE your longer thoughts! Complete agreement. Especially Spike going for his soul to "resolve the contradictions of his character." Beautifully put.
Oh, I'd love to see your answers for this meme. (And now I'm very curious about the two choices you're undecided between. If you need input, I'd be happy to assist. :]) But hmm, this period from 'Surprise' to 'Becoming' probably isn't optimum meming time. Maybe you'll have to stretch the meme on for a few months... ?
I so love your thoughts here, I have the same love for Spike, didn't happen for me till much later (FFL) but now I when I go back and look at School Hard etc, I don't know how I missed the awesomeness.
This:
He is brave, for one. "I may be love's bitch, but at least I'm man enough to admit it." It's a glorious contradiction - how a person can have so much shame, and yet be completely shameless
Glad you enjoyed! ♥ Yeah, FFL is most definitely the turning point for a lot of people. That's the episode that makes him a show-changing character. *nod*
