Let Me Be Rightly Understood

I stumbled across a book title that got me really, really excited: The Heroine's Bookshelf: Life Lessons from Jane Austen to Laura Ingalls Wilder. ZOMG. Laura Ingalls Wilder shaped my girlhood, and Jane Austen shaped my teen years. Must. Read. This. Book.

But when I actually started reading it today, I didn't get far before I lost patience.

I wouldn't agree with that description either! Sometimes I do like to debate or just think about a sense of self in certain books but I doubt I could read a whole book harping on it.

That's sad that the book turned out so bad. It sounded so good!

Glad I'm not the only one! In all fairness, it's a very well-written book. I just got a bit miffed at a couple things. (I do wish I hadn't leafed through the bit about Laura Ingalls Wilder. Big disillusionment there. I had no idea what Rose Wilder Lane wrote, and I didn't need to know.)

*high five* I can't wrap my brain around how she could possibly interpret Elizabeth that way. Maybe she's trying to cast her in an edgy light that would make her more appealing to modern readers? (As if Lizzy needs more appeal!)
