Chapter-By-Chapter Commentary of The Scarlet Pimpernel - Part 1

This little masterpiece of a book is arguably one of my favorites of all time. Much as I love it, though, I do have to admit, Orczy's writing style can be just a wee bit much for me. Thus, most of this commentary will focus on praise for my favorite characters, and jokes aimed at Orczy whenever she gets too excited or sentimental about stuff. You ( Read more... )

This was riveting (that's saying more than Orczy's first chapter, ha ha), and I've read the thing!

Have you seen the Anthony Andrews adaptation? I knew what was coming from having seen the movie countless times prior to reading the book, but I never fail to chuckle with unabashed glee at how cleverly the Pimpernel eludes his pursuers, and often right under their very nose!

Bonus points and cookies to you for managing to work in a Batman reference, X-Men, AND Zorro. And Jane Austen. You officially rock!

Riveting? Really? Why, thank you! *preens self*

I POSITIVELY ADORE the Anthony Andrews version! And I chuckle with glee from beginning to end--except when I start choking on my own drool while staring at those award-winning costumes.

I rock? Awwww. Thanks again! :)

Yes! I very much enjoyed your voice and pacing.

Oh GOOD!!!!! I don't remember if we've discussed that before (probably; it usually doesn't take me very long to bring it up), but I adore it as well, having grown up with it. It's the definitive version, and the only one, for me. :) (Award-winning costumes?)

Yup, you do! You mean you did not know?

According to this IMDB article, TSP and costume designer Phyllis Dalton won an Emmy for the costumes. :)

No, I don't hear that I "rock" very often. Usually, people simply say I "own". XD

Hee hee, this is awesome! *claps*

I take it A Tale of Two Cities scarred you in connection with evil knitting women? ;p

Oh, thank you!

Yes, A Tale of Two Cities did just that! I don't remember a great deal from my last reading (need to read it again), but I remember the knitting hags all too well. O.O

LOL! They are very spooky! That most evil knitting hag came to a poor end, though! It was very fitting, I thought.
