because apparently this poem isn't as famous as I thought it was...

Who has seen the wind?
Neither I nor you:
But when the leaves hang trembling
The wind is passing thro'

Who has seen the wind?
Neither you nor I:
But when the trees bow down their heads
The wind is passing by.

*Who* doesn't know this poem?

(Have you read the book by the same title?)

*whew* So you thought that everyone knew it too?

I brought the poem up at AIA, after talking about my birthday books. Mr. reads-Hugo-en-français-and-oft-quotes-scripture-KJV made some comment about "who has seen the wind anyway?" I got a blank stare when I alluded to the poem. So I did damage control. He now knows the poem.

I haven't read the book, but it's one that has been on my list (albeit not near the top...) for quite some time. Have you read it? Is W. O. Mitchell from Saskatchewan?

Yes, I read it. I think he's from Saskatchewan... wait... Google... Yes, he was born in Weyburn, Saskatchewan, although he moved around after that quite a bit. It's worth reading, and not very long.

Prairie, I've been talking about this poem to other people too... Other people who don't know it!

Ya wanna hear some irony? The book may be written by a Saskatchewan boy, but Christina Rossetti is considered "one of the most important women poets writing in nineteenth-century England."
