I felt the same way. Rarely do shows approach the depth and resonance of my favorite novels, but this one did.

I've watched the first three episodes of The Tudors and, though enjoyable, it doesn't hold a candle to Rome. The difference between lightning and a lightning bug.

I've heard the same about The Tudors and I'm honestly a bit disappointed. I mean, I'm still going to watch it no matter how cheesy it gets, but still. I really wanted something ...similar... to fill the gap this'll leave.

Oh well, here's hoping for that Crusades series!

The Tudors pilot is rubbish. Episodes two and three are quite watchable, though. But you never stop feeling condescended to: the history and characters are so dumbed-down for mass appeal it's almost laughable. Plus, the costumes, when compared to April Ferry's brilliance in Rome, look like Community College Theater.

Like I said, watchable. But judging from the third I saw, I'm not going to be rushing out and buying the DVD or anything.

I agree completely. It really was a magnificent ending and every character fit so perfectly into its framework. I was a sobbing mess, but I'm glad nothing will ever diminish the show for me now.
