Feb 11, 2013 18:15

It's been a long time since I updated. I admit, I wanted to quit, but maybe it's not as bad as I think.

Last chapter: http://evelyngrace87.livejournal.com/tag/the%20forgotten

Characters: Cara, Kahlan, Richard, Zedd, others

Rating: PG-13

Summary: A Legend of the Seeker fan fic told from Cara’s POV. After finding the stone of tears and saving the Midlands, Richard and Kahlan are married at Aydindril, where Kahlan is restoring some order until they find a way to destroy Darken Rahl again. What they don’t expect is a new unforeseen foe that targets Cara.

* I don't own these characters, just madly in love with writing about them.*

“Impressive,” the blonde says to me. “You caught one of the missing generals.” I smile internally, she thinks I am one of them.

“Traitors need to be taught a lesson,” I respond coolly.

“Lord Rahl will be pleased,” she tells me. I give her a slow smile and turn to walk inside, with them behind me. I exchange a quick glance with Roland who seems to be tensing as we walk into the entrance behind the other Mord’Sith. As I walk by guards, none of them seem to recognize me. Although I am sure they can hear my hear thumping in my chest.

I am walking slowly so I can scan the various doors we past to see which is heavily guarded. I know most of these are prisoners Mord’Sith are trying to break, but you never know where Rahl may keep something precious to him. I start to go down the hallway to the right, when the blonde stops me.

“If you’re looking for an empty dungeon there are some to the left. We are expected to meet with Lord Rahl soon in his receiving chambers,” she tells me. I nod and tug Roland with me towards the left and enter one of the empty dungeons. I let go of his chain and make sure no one is around before shutting the door.

“You have to go to that,” he tells me. “They will notice if you aren’t there.”

“I know,” I cross my arms. I was not expecting this. “What about you?”

“I will hang out here,” he chuckles at his own joke.

“What if another Mord’Sith comes in here and thinks you are free to break?” I huff.

“I can handle anything that comes at me. I have been through worse,” he tells me through hardened eyes. “We need to find that book. No matter what.”

“Yes,” I nod. “But don’t do anything foolish. I will come back here as soon as this conference with Lord Rahl is over.”

“I will be waiting,” he smirks.

“Unless…” I think aloud.

“What?” He furrows his brow.

“There was a guard a few feet down,” I say and bolt for the door, leaving Roland confused. I see the guard walking back and forth in front of the window.

“You!” I look at him. “Help me hoist my prisoner so I am not late for Lord Rahl.” The guard hurriedly walks to me and inside the dungeon. As soon as his back is turned, I agiel him to his knees. I then press my agiel to his temple, causing him to be unconscious.

“What are you doing?” Roland looks at me wide eyed.

“Put his clothes on and hoist him up,” I tell him. “Then we can explore this place together.”

“Won’t he wake up?” Roland asks me.

“Not until the end of the day, if i doesn't ill him,” I tell him and holster my agiel. “I will be back.” I shut the door and leave Roland with the soon to be dead guard. I then hurriedly walk to Lord Rahl’s receiving chambers.

I am amazed at my own memory of this palace and that my feet seem to be leading me to where I need to be. None of the guards even pay me any attention as I walk by in a rush. I breathe a quick sigh of relief as I see other Mord’Sith entering the room. I am not late. I will not be noticed.

Other Mord’Sith have lined up in front of the door Darken Rahl will come in. I take a stance in the back and straighten myself. My heart is still pounding, as now I have to face Darken Rahl. I hope Zedd’s disguise will make me blend in with the other sisters of the agiel. If I was found out here, I would have a slim chance of escape.

The whispers of the Mord’Sith halt when Darken Rahl walks in. My insides are cringing at the sight of him. It takes everything I have to not push past all the red leather and kill him. But that would do nothing but expose me and Roland.

“My faithful Mord’Sith,” his smooth velvet voice calls out. “As you know we have an epidemic that is rampant in D’Hara and the Midlands. Many of my finest soldiers have been destroyed,” he looks away as if in remorse. Please. That man has no remorse. I stifle the urge to roll my eyes. “I am dependent on you more than ever. You were trained to be able to not be harmed by magic. This epidemic is magical,” he tells us. I had not thought of that. Richard and Kahlan were affected, but they were not Mord’Sith. “I called you here to have you be prepared to be sent on missions. It has come to my attention there may be a way to stop this,” he begins walking towards us. Oh no. “You are my best warriors,” he stops right next to me. I turn and look at him. “You cannot fail me now,” he eyes me and walks away.

Thank the spirits he is gone. We file out of the room and one of the older Mord’Sith speaks up.

“Remember to be on high alert, sisters,” she looks at us all. “This is a time Lord Rahl needs us most.” Her hardened voice reminds me who she is. She was one of the original Mord’Sith when I was first a full Mord’Sith. Elana. That was her name. I avoid her gaze and return down the hallway to go get Roland.

As I am walking down the hallway I hear boots behind and turn. The blonde from before is trailing.

“Is there something I can do for you?” I snap.

“I wanted to assist you in breaking that man you brought in,” she tells me.

“I don’t need help,” I reply.

“I didn’t say you did, just that I wanted to,” she says and crosses her arms.

“I found him, he is mine,” I become possessive.

“Fine,” she growls. “I will just tell Elana you aren’t following orders. Lord Rahl needs all the prisoners broken so they can become soldiers. We were told that yesterday.” I do an internal groan. How am I going to get out of this? Hopefully the guard died. But then I would be in trouble for letting him die. I suppose I can think of a lie once we get to the dungeon. Hopefully Roland has the scene in order.

“Have it your way,” I growl back and turn on my heel and begin walking towards the dungeon where I left Roland. I start forming a plan as my boots create urgent echoes down the hallway.
