Title: A Familiar Face Author: evelyncarver Rating: G Characters/Pairings: Owen, Ianto Table: N/A Summary: Owen knows the new boy from somewhere and he’ll figure it out sooner or later. Note: Torchwood prompt #4 Recognition
Oh, ouch! This certainly puts an interesting spin on the source of their contentious relationship. To think that the hostility was caused by Owen's guilt over something that happened before Ianto even started work is a disturbing thought. Canary Wharf casts a long shadow, indeed. :(
Thanks so much :) I wish that they'd done more with Canary Wharf in canon, it just seemed like such a big event for Torchwood and for Jack and it doesn't come up nearly enough.
I couldn't agree more. Clearly Jack had strong feelings about TW1 and Canary Wharf to have rejected Ianto repeatedly and out of hand just because he came from there, and yet it's barely mentioned again.
Not to mention, this was a catastrophic event that would have affected everyone at the time, rather like 9/11 in the U.S., and like it or not, Torchwood was intimately involved. They has an actual survivor working for them! And yet again, barely mentioned.
Oh well, more for fanfic writers to chew on, I guess. :)
It seems like a lot of events, more so in Doctor Who, occur and then everyone just forgets about them and moves on. Canary Wharf is the biggest, especially if they passed it off as a terrorist attack, but what happened in The Christmas Invasion with the people all standing on roofs and the population never seemed to take these things seriously.
But as you said, definitely like having more to ponder as a fanfic writer :)
