Murder at the Vicarage was the first Agatha Christie I ever picked up, and it's remained one of my favourites.

It's just excellent in every way! In retrospect the misdirection seems so obvious, but that's the trick, isn't it? Characters drawn with quick clean strokes (I love Lettice) and all that wryness about village gossip, and Miss Marple quietly and persistently knowing all. So good.
