Ros wants to go to her office night out on Wednesday - its dinner and drinks in a restaurant on Charlotte Street. I really want her to go but its tricky because she needs a night out but Jude wont take a bottle. It would be ok if he would but he doesn’t so its very difficult to get any milk down him when she isn’t there. And of course to get there ( Read more... )

Well, this may not be something you want to try, but have you considered using an SNS? It has a small tube that you "tape" to your breast that is attached to a little "bottle" of formula. It's meant for teaching infants to latch, but I know a lot of two mom families use it so they can both get the bf experience... I've even heard of some dads doing it in the situation you're describing... but, it's not for everyone... M doesn't ever want to try it, which is fine with me.

Absolutely what garaynbow said. More information can be found on this site: http://www.fourfriends.com/abrw/ You can knock up a contraption yourself using some (sterilised) tubing and bottle.

Alternatively, have you looked into some of the other nipples that are available for bottles? Standard nipples are so very different to human ones. The action required to get food from them is different, they feel different, and Jude might simply find the transition difficult. Avent bottle nipples seem to be somewhat better than some of the others, and there's one that has been recommended but I can't for the life of me remember which it was. This might help though.

Other feeding techniques include letting him lap from a cup, or attaching a tube to your finger and letting him suckle that.

Good luck!

thanks!

we have tried EVERY bottle known to (wo)man and although we will continue playing around with the bottle with him to try and get him accustomed we are probably going to just move him straight on to a cup with a lid and spout (avent do a soft one for 3 months plus) and feed him from a medicine syringe or ordinary cup until then if ros needs to go out. tomorrow night i am going to take him up to where she is and she will come out to the car to feed him if necessary.

I think he'll be alright without a feed though. I can use other means to get him off to sleep and if he's had enough milk before she goes he ought to last out. if he goes mad with hunger he'll just have to deal with a bottle/medicine syringe/cup until we can get to ros....

i bet he'll fall asleep in the car when we are on our way to her anyway!
