When did that happen?

I realized last night that sometime since returning to Montreal in 2006, after my MA, I lost interest in my local SCA group. First it was a lack of interest in local practices, particularly after they split up into separate activities on separate nights. For several years, I'd skip out on practices and only go to moots, events, and quarterly A&S ( Read more... )

Agreed. We want you at Pennsic and every last bit of your bardic, from poetry to song to story! And I shall make you cookies.

I enjoy your songs/stories... I particularly like period-style SCA stories, personally. Or even just "NSTIW" stories :) Sadly, I live downstate in NY so I'll mostly only see you at Pennsic.

Are cookies a sufficient bribe for a bard? how about an apple cake? (Katrusha, you too!)

My involement in the SCA has shifted over the years, too... I'm finding more things to do outside of the SCA, but I'm still very involved locally (I wish I could go to more non-local things, but money/gas prices prohibit at the moment?)

Cookies are always an acceptable bribe. Heck, most baked goods are acceptable bribes for this bard. Also lunch. Or dinner. Or... well, food products in general, really. *grin*

Remind me who you are? I'm not connecting the username with a face or name.

sorry - I think I was introduced as Jenna ChildSlayer - about 3 Pennsics back, in the Dione Sidhe encampment

I hear you! I've started being disconnected when Richard started losing interest. And then I started playing taiko, which wasn't too bad when it was only Sunday-morning classes, but now I'm getting much more involved into it, to the point where my activities in the SCA seem... well, childish, in comparison. I've realized that, in the last year, I didn't go to a single event. My blue card is still in its envelope. But I still stay in touch, and I'm still interested - but when I get involved again I will have to shift my focus and "play" differently. Maybe that's a good thing - only time will tell!

Yay, Taiko! Kodo drummers fan here. I hope I'm not totally mistaken.

Any chance I can get to hear you guys again? I loved it. :-) I can still bring up that feeling you get in the pit of your belly. It's like your whole soul is in the music. :-)

"This weekend, a friend of mine is hosting a pillow-fort-building night" - is that Lia, or are there two pyjama parties that night? XD

Nope, completely different friend. And this isn't a pyjama party -- I expect everyone will be dressed in street clothes. Instead, there will be an engineering marvel of a pillow fort, probably stretching across his entire living room and large enough to comfortably seat six adults. I expect awesomeness.

I understand what you're saying. I have found myself feeling more and more isolated from the group. I play more with those from elsewhere. If I want to get to an event, it's usually someone from away who get me there.

At the same time, I have my friends and chosen family and that transcends the SCA. :-)

And we're having breakfast on Saturday, right? You, me, Ernst, and whoever he's bringing up? Chez Cora as usual?
