Part of my ongoing job hunt has revolved around the necessary question of what I want to do when I grow up. Most of the jobs I've been looking at have been things like secretarial work or short-term tutoring work, mostly because those are the sorts of jobs that get posted. "At least it's more than I had yesterday" That's good, and more than many can say.

I know someone who has done something like that - she's been an executive assistant for several companies now in NYC, where it seems turnover has been high as companies or positions merge and positions suddenly become superfluous. Which leads to job hunts & cannibalizing her 401(k) between positions. This last hunt was 10 months long but she's landed an EA/Office Manager job so she may finally be moving up. So it can be done.

{That feeling of taking a hard look at "what DO I want to do?" and "Just what CAN I do?" is a familiar one here too}
