Jen says she thinks I should post more. I -would-, but the things I could post about aren't interesting; "Got up, fed cats, did laundry, wiped up cat barf, read LJ, read Metafilter, ate, slept"... and the things that are interesting, like mini painting assigments, and story work, and business matters and game stuff, are things I can't post about ( Read more... )

Can I visit your red city? Most of my city-dreams are in some form of Gotham: tall dark grey buildings, lots of trash, very little life.

As far as I'm concerned you sure can; frankly it really doesn't feel like mine. There's a couple of dreams where the overall feeling is, "This isn't part of my brain, I've wandered into someone else's world on accident", and further, nost places I dream of I can, with morning light, recognize as, "Oh yeah, that was UC Santa Cruz, but in space" or "That was the hotel we stayed in in Canada, just with kangaroos in it" but the red city doesn't remind me of anything in waking life. If you get there, see if you can find out who it belongs to.

Hey, I was wondering... how long are the dreams you recall, usually? Most of mine seem to take hours, for example, but once I had a dream that lasted, oh, several years. Maybe upward of a decade.

Generally hours, I'd say. Sometimes I've had parts where I dream one thing, then a little while later I'm dreaming something else and it references the first dream and I think, "But that was months ago!" I don't recall any taking more than a few days of escalated time.

fwiw, my dreams are usually in the 2-3 day range. every now and then I get into weeks or months. the longest was about a 18 months.

a decade seems like it'd be really confusing to wake up from!

Oh, it was quite confusing. I spent most of the dream as a native of some non-specific fantasy world, leading armies in a classic "conquer the world" effort. Toward the end of the campaign, someone discovered portals to the real world, so naturally I decided to take that over too. I unfortunately didn't get far in the effort before the dream ended, but it was awesome.

Actually, I'd have to say waking up was much more disappointing than confusing.

I dream of some of the same places over and over.

Now I have a thought about that. :) Hmmmm.

Some of the places I've dreamed of, I really hope I don't go back there...
