So I´ve been doing some new year´s cleaning in real life and around here, locked a few NSFW posts, deleted a few folders from the scrapbook galleries and took a long hard look at my friends list. 0_o

I was really surprised that the new Batman movie did not rejuvenate the fandom. I think the big blow to Supes/Bat has to be the cancellation of Smallville. Lots of people who didn't read comics were at least familiar with Clark through that show ( ... )

Smallville, I hadn´t even considered that, but you may be right. There seem to be more TV show related fandoms out there than anything else. I wonder how big the Arrow fandom has become already ( ... )

The good thing about Archive of Our Own is it allows you to archive any type of file, including artwork and video. You should check it out. If you need an invite for an account, let me know. I have one more left.

As for the copyright issue, I think as long as you're not selling on a wide-scale basis, you'd be fine. All kinds of professional artists make money off of drawing S and B characters for conventions, by commission etc. They even charge a lot of money. I've never heard of any of them being sued.

Thank you for your generous offer, Theresa, but I actually have an invite to AO3. I just wasn´t aware I could archive artwork there, so this was really a good tip.

Enjoyed the fandom insights in your post. Although DC comics is not a core fandom to me, I always enjoy getting a look at your art and Cyc's stories. Unfortunately, LJ only works for me about 30% of the time I click for it so I'm missing a lot.

Journal-based fandom in general seems to be grinding to a halt anyway, so I find myself checking LJ less and less.

I don´t know how insightful it really was, lol, but I guess I had to get it off my chest.

I´ve really only ever followed the S/B fandom, and even there it´s mainly Cyc´s work, so it´s interesting for me to hear you say that journal-based fandom is generally on the wane.
I guess we´ll see if and how creativity will find new outlets in the future.
