Naturally, I am a bit concerned

So, apparently the Secret Service came to see me at my apartment on Friday.

I was at work, it being, you know, a weekday, but they left me a nice note asking me to contact an agent. I doubt it's that important, as I haven't heard anything since. However, there is this one, petty detail: I cannot think of a single good reason why the Secret ( Read more... )

My aunt got tackled by four secret service agents way back when Bill Clinton was running for office the first time. She jumped over a puddle to get closer to him (all the press and fans wer going around the puddle) and before she could think the guys tackled her as if she were an armed threat. Bill Clinton thought it was funny and shook her hand, once the Agents let her up. But um.... yeah, that has nothing to do with this. That's really strange.

Maybe you're a threat to the President and the United States of America and you don't know it?

Well, I'm betting I'm not going to get to shake the President's hand, but then, I'm not getting tackled either, so I suppose that's fair.

It would figure if I was a threat that I wouldn't even know.

Eek! Yes, that would be a bit concern-making. Maybe they had the wrong address?

That would be nice. Perhaps unlikely of the Secret Service, but maybe they're looking for the person who was here before me?

Maybe a neighbor is applying for a Federal job? An angent came to my grandmother's house the other day to ask about her next-door neighbor, even though she knows next to nothing about them.

Maybe. That'd be awkward. "Well, you might not want to trust the guy down the hall with security. He leaves his keys in the door all the time."

Talk to a lawyer if you're really nervous.

It's possible that you know someone that they're investigating.

Well, I'm not that nervous yet.

I may have severely underestimated my friends.

Some LJer was visited by the Secret Service after she posted an entry about President Bush dying (it wasn't really a threat, it was a joke but you could tell she seriously hated Bush). That freaked out a lot of people. But all they did was have tea and make sure she wasn't crazy.

Have you threatened the President or Vice President lately?

I heard about that. I work with and know a lot of people in the government, so I'm very careful about what I say, even in jest. It's probably just part of a background check, but it's still a weird thing to come home to.
