I think this may be my favorite of the movies because Order of the Phoenix is my least favorite book, and the movie does a good job minimizing some of the problems I had with it.
Haha. I loved the book and disliked the movie. Opposites!
I thought that Snape's flashback scene was cut painfully short. That scene was so tense (and I really wanted to see the Marauders as wee schoolchildren...we didn't even see Lily).
But I did like Ginny making faces about Cho, which is odd as I can't stand either of them. Maybe jealousy is just easy to identify with. Heh.
I agree about Snape's flashback. The absence of Lily does worry me if the spoilers about Snape loving Lily are true, we will have absolutely no pre-DH evidence of their interactions. It will be a bit of a stretch, though we do have Lupin announcing that everyone loved Lily.
I like the Ginny responses because they were a little silly, and also a little side thing you might miss if you were looking elsewhere. It's the small things that impress me.
That would be cool, but maybe a little too whimsical if DH turns out to be an angst-fest. Tim Burton's got too much of a sense of humor. Plus, I don't think he'd be allowed to use his standard cast of actors, which might make his hair droop.
Whoops! I forgot to mention Helena Bonham Carter! She was great too. Man, her eyes when she came out of the shadows behind Lucius (that entire scene was pretty funny to start out with, with the unexpected fight almost breaking out).
I also wish there had been more in the Department of Mysteries, though I imagine it was more time and money than they wanted to spend, sadly.
I loved this movie, where I was only marginally attached to the book version of Harry Potter and the Capslock of Rage (let's face it, that's what it really should have been called). I pretty much agree with everything you said, even about Grawp -- he was oddly cuddly-looking. Of course, I was only marginally paying attention to him, because I was far more interested in Ron trying to protect Hermione.
I understand Steve "Ron is incapable and pointless" Kloves will be doing the script for movie six, but I really hope that whoever did it for this movie comes back for the last one, because I thought this was just handled so much better than POA.
It's a pity about Ron. I was pretty sad that he wasn't a prefect either (or at least not stated to be). I hope the next movie won't be so bad, since his role has finally been expanding.
My husband said pretty much the same thing you did: he hated the book because there was so much "unnecessary" plotlines and he loved the movie b/c that extra stuff was all trimmed out. I loved this movie and I am so glad he's directing 6
( ... )
Well, it wasn't the sideplots that bothered me about OotP, but the plot itself. It's seriously a good thing I didn't have an LJ at that time, because man, the rant I would have written. Instead, my friend just got it over the phone.
The locket I'm not too worried about, as that was only a throwaway in Book 5. It'll be just as easy to discover it for the first time in Movie 7 as will be to rediscover it in Book 7. Kind of like, if the Quibbler or Luna's father needs to be reintroduced, it shouldn't be too much trouble. But Petunia is never getting that letter again, ya know?
Umbridge really is the better villain in OotP. I think I would have liked it a lot more if the ending hadn't focused on Voldemort and his dumb plot (the book, I mean, not the movie).
And Voldemort as mental state is really a good, concise way to look at it. I wish I had articulated it so well.

Am I the only one who thinks number 7 should go to Tim Burton?
That would be cool.

Shorter version: I totally agree.
