I didn’t do as much reading as I hoped this year, but considering the abysmal number of books I read of my own volition last year (i.e., books without names like Managing the Sociological Construction of Public Opinion or The Failings of Public Polling in the New Millennium or Media Relations for the Greater Good of the Glorious Republic at the ( Read more... )

Oooh, I'm going to have to write some of these down! Also, I'm like halfway through The Historian, and now am concerned about the ending being full of meh. :(

I liked the ending fine, even if it was a bit "wha?" *shrug* It's not so bad. God knows I've read worse.

The problem I had with ending is that it really couldn't have ended any other way, but in comparison to how everything before it was presented, it was a let down. It was an "Oh, please" ending to me.

I know! Even the writing seemed to get worse at the end. I read part of Historian in 5th grade, but I didn't understand any of it until I took my 6th grade history course x). I liked Rossi's character a lot, he's a bit like one of my former teachers.

I love Reduced Shakespeare so much. I really want to see another show, but I don't know where to do so. It's Six Months of Shakespeare in DC this year, so maybe there'll be hope of at least something similar.

Hah, I saw them in London about the same amount of time ago (...which suddenly seems like a long time).

They may be, but I don't know. I really hope they do come to our city wide Shakespeare festival!

This is awesome.
I'm the biggest fforde devotee now because of the post you wrote about his books awhile ago, so i'll definitely have to check some of these out.

Yes! A conversion to the ways of Fforde! I have yet to read his latest, but that's because someone keeps taking it out of the library before me!

The Fourth Bear?
I'm reading it right now. It's just as good as the rest.
I love that he packages his books with "secial features" via the website.

The special features are great. There was so much stuff on the pages about The Big Over Easy. I love the work he puts into his books.

Out of curiosity, did you ever read The Lovely Bones? What did you think of it?

I have never read it, but it is on my list. I've only heard good things about it, though.

the fact that you read smashed: story of a drunken girlhood is really interesting. i actually grew up in koren's town and was good friends with her younger sister. we were all shocked when the book came out because though i had always thought koren a bit strange, nobody had EVER guessed any of this about her. i did, however, think the book was really good (once i could get past the knowing the author part)

Wow, that must have been surreal. It's a strange thing to find out someone you know's secrets like that.
