Movie Review: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe

Jan 16, 2006 14:29

I saw this movie about three weeks ago, but I’d like to hear what everyone else thought of it. Personally, I liked it a great deal; my mother called it “LotR-Lite” (literally called it that, with abbreviations and implied misspellings included) and I’m still not sure if this is a good or bad thing; my friend Marty raged at White Witch’s costumes; ( Read more... )

My dad said he would go gay for Mr. Tumnus.

That is a HUGE conquest.

I was so freakin' impressed by this movie. Wicked awesome. :-D

That IS pretty impressive. I don't think I could ever get my father to admit something like that. Except about this flamanco dancer we saw once, but I think the statute of limitations has run out on that one.

I can't wait for "The Silver Chair" (*^.^*) I thought Susan was whinier in the movie than in the book, though - then again, she's REALLY whiny in "Prince Caspian" perhaps thye're just setting up for that...
Centaurs rock. (^-^)

Yeah, the increasing whininess of Susuan is one of the things that annoyed me about Prince Caspian. I didn't really find her whiny in LWW, but that may just be point of view.

Centaurs DO rock, and they should be in more things.

I was sitting there wondering why Susan looked so pleased when he said her new name. I would've said, "Excuse me? He's magnificent, the little one's valiant, and I'm fricking gentle?!" Although it made a bit more sense in the book where they came to be called that over time, not names give to them right after a battle.

Totally with you on the White Queen's first outfit. She looked like a linebacker! But the ice crown looked very cool indeed. And her sacrificial dress and war garb looked awesome. To be honest, I could put up with quite a bit of costume nonsense for the polar bear war chariot. ;)

...I need a Narnia icon.

Yeah, I don't know why they got their names right after the battle (well, yes, I do, because there was no narration), because things like that sort of need to develop over time.

Polar bear war chariot was pretty awesome. I have no idea the land speed of polar bears, but it certainly has style, yes?

I think I need a Narnia icon too...probably one that says "Queen Susan the Gracious Hostess" because I certainly couldn't have a non-joke icon.

I LOVE YOU!

Seriously, I knew there was a reason I was keeping one of my fancy new icon slots open.

This is the greatest thing ever.

I loved the movie - both times I saw it! The battle scene was worthy of Lord of the Rings. Of course, I could have liked more blood, but that's just me. XDD

I hated the Queen's dress, but I did like the menacing effect that wearing Aslan's mane gave her. It really made me hate her all the more. The actress was wonderful. I agree with you, definitely.

I loved the fact that they had female centaurs as well. And the pheonix arrow was EXCELLENT. The whole effect was great, even though it didn't work out in the end.

I really loved it. One of my favorite movies, and I'm about to work on reading the books now! xD

Theology? Oh... the religious-ness, right? >> Yeah. Apparently the five themes are Christianity were in the movie. The only thing I saw was that Aslan was supposed to be "Jesus." And I'm not going to say here what I think the 5 themes should be. :D

Did you think the Queen and Tumnus seemed like pedophiles, or was it just me?

Well, I thought the level of blood was appropriate for the audience and the story. But I kept expecting LotR level gore during the fight scene. I've been well trained.

Well, I didn't see anything sexual in the White Witch or Tumnus at all, but I don't see things like that. It's probably not just you; you just have to find the right communities.

XD I guess it's just the way she said, "Mm... I'm going to miss you" to Ed when he left the sleigh. It just sounded... weird. XD

Yeah, it was appropriate for the audience, but I was expecting more blood. *shrug* It was great this way though.

Yeah, I agree about the blood thing. I mean, I understand why they didn't, but the battle was pretty graphic otherwise, and I don't really understand why they kept the line "clean your sword" when it was already clean and shiny. Call me a sicko if you want, but I just thought that it was weird in the battle scene when Peter stabbed a minotaur-like thing and when he drew out his sword, it practically FLASHED in the sunlight.

Yeah, it was a great adaptation. I was very pleased..and I'm a tough critic.

Jadis's costumes were a bit weird, yes. That was pretty badass of her to wear Aslan's mane! :P "ha, I kill you then I wear your mane!"

Those kids were really great actors. Much better than the Harry Potter gang, in my opinion. (maybe I should cut them some slack since their roles are becoming more difficult. or not) And YAY, Liam Neeson made me happy! I would've been mad if they did Mufasa's voice or something similar.

And since we're all Mr. Tumnus fans, here's a pic for your enjoyment: http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/27319982/ ;)

The Aslan-mane wearing was what cemented my love of the White Witch in the movie. That takes balls. Steel. Balls.

I definately agree that the Narnia kids were better actors than the HP gang. But I also think the HP guys and gals are getting better, and their roles change more.

James Earl Jone's voice would have been very wrong for Aslan if just because of the Mufasa thing. It would have been the weirdest disconnect ever.

Awwwwwww! Mr. Tumnus fanart! It's so cute!
