They don't know it's Christmas time because it hasn't freakin' started yet!

Nov 23, 2005 17:20

I really should have done this last week because that's when one of the radio stations I listen to started playing Christmas music full time, but I was in a state of denial and didn't want to deal with the inevitable. But since every consumer establishment around feels the need to play holiday muzak and one of my apartment complex neighbors has ( Read more... )

The only reason why I like "Do They Know It's Christmas" is because of the point behind it. Other than that, I get so sick of Christmas music so easily. My solution? The Fox. All classic rock, yo. Love it. But my dad's all about the music. And the movies. *gag* Has to watch them over and over and over again. I hate Christmas movies. All cliches, I tell you.

"Do They Know It's Christmas" always bothered me because of the "there won't be snow in Africa this Christmas." As if Africa was only the Sahara and didn't have high elevations at all. Also, below the equator, it's summer. This is all semantics, but it bugs me.

Christmas movies also suck, but I still like a few of them, so a giant rant would be more difficult.

I, personally, have always hated Little Drummer boy. Most. Annoying. Song. Ever. As for Most Wonderful Time of the Year? I have to agree about it's weirdness in relation to Christmas. Probably because I sing it at Halloween.

I truly wish I had a copy of BBE Rudolph, milday, but when your BBEs were still on FFN, I was too young to have enough cleverness developed to realize I could have just save them onto my computer. *tear*

The sound of "pa rum pa pum pum" makes me want to scream. It's an annoying song and gets stuck in one's head.

That's okay. I'm just hoping someone has it, because my backup disks got corrupted.

...Yes. It is. And is now stuck in my head just from reading the words. Onomatopoeias. Whatever. Thank you.

Dancing queen, feel the beat from the tambourine! OH-YEAH!

Starting at Advent would make sense, but you're also right that we could never convince store owners to cut the season short. It would make it less crass, in my opinion, if it was more confined.

You have to appreciate anyone who brings myrrh to a birth, and anyone who would include lines about bleeding, dying and tombs in a Christmas song.

I love that bit from Love, Actually because it seemed to be mocking everything I despise about Christmas music.

While I found Love, Actually to be a little too sacchrine on the whole, I really like the "love as a second language" sentiment.

I hear you. There are a lot of great Christmas songs, but they only seem to play the bad ones.

The radio station I listen to hasn't started yet, but they've said that they soon will. But they promised to play the "good" instead of the annoying. They'd better deliver...

I kinda like "O Come Emmanuel" and "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" but radio stations shy away from those for more generic Christmas songs. Grrr...

Oh well, it can't last forever, right?

Man, you're lucky your station has started adding in Christmas songs yet. They've probably decided to wait until after Thanksgiving, like sane people should.

"O Come Emmanuel" and "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" do not get the radio credit they deserve. Most tradtional carols don't seem to be as popular.

Oi, I hear you. I work at Wal-mart, and they started playing Christmas carols two weeks ago. And decorating for Christmas THREE weeks ago. All before it started to snow, because really, it doesn't feel like Christmas until it's snowed (unless you live on the snowless coast where all it does is rainrainrain)

And sadly, I don't have any of the BBE's saved to my computer, though I really do want to snag the Harry Potter ones...

Speaking of, I saw you hadn't seen GoF and it's actually really good if you forget that it's connected to the book in any way shape or form. I think if you do wind up seeing it and writing a breadbox, it will be beyond hilarious.

And wow, first time I've commented here...feel free to friend me if you want, I don't mind ^.^

Wal-Mart was really getting a start on the holiday season, weren't they? I'm sorry you've had to deal with this so long. I usually use snow as a seasonal measure as well, though it hasn't snowed yet where I am. I should soon, but I'm just that close to the ocean.

I will definately see GoF and write the parody. Probably this weekend, if I can go to the good theater.

I've friended you! Thanks for the okay.
