jan_the_verse and I have decided that what really needs to happen on the new season of Doctor Who is for the Doctor and Amy to meet one of the Face of Boe's (likely many) sons. Who is an awful lot like the Face of Boe in his younger days. Who grew up hearing some pretty ~interesting~ stories about the Doctor ( Read more... )

AGREE ABOUT THE FACE OF BOE!

What do you (both?) think about "smoochy-smoochy time? Sorry, I watched the Confidential ep and can't get Karen Gillan and Matt Smith's tandem quoting out of my head.

I've been speaking to a few people and am thinking... I kinda like it. I hear Amy isn't the promiscuous kind, but she went through a hell of a day and the doctor isn't exactly unattractive. So, hormones, evasion, et cetera. But it's not like she wants to marry him a la Rose or Martha, either, she wants a screw. I can totally understand that...

I have not seen the Confidential because Iiiii almost never watch them! I got out of the habit because of time and never got back in, I guess! I should do that sometime.

But yeah, I liked it! My first reaction was, "Are we really going there? Are we really going there NOW?" And then my reaction was "Fucking YES." Because basically I think this is the most delightful and fresh way for them to handle this. Just by virtue of the show itself, people were going to be reading subtext into them, and this pulls that subtext right into the open and thereby gets to decide what kind of text it is. And it has decided that it is the "just wants a screw" text rather than the constantly dancing around each other doe-eyed subtext that everyone would have been writing in fanfic otherwise. And personally, I get bored of that kind of thing--so yay, this!

Mostly, though, I just adore how amazingly matter-of-fact and charmingly aggressive Amy is. <3

That's a great point. Was talking to a friend who didn't like the "romance" at all, and said that that angle had been explored with Rose and Martha, with Donna as the anti-romantic interest. But I'm not sure how involved in fandom she is (nor am I, really) but even I know that people would be writing fic with that undertone.

I also like how PROgressive Amy is. She's really a kind of female character we haven't seen yet on DW, someone good, smart, compassionate and also a bit of a number. :D

I liked it too! She's on edge, and she's displaying a healthy sexual urge. THAT IS TOTALLY OKAY. And like Eva says, it's really nice to have it out in the open like that.

By the by, you and me, Mill. Fut. talky talk, tomorrow, y/y?
