Oil was still transparent and green. It has an oil change at least every 12 months. I do know how to look after my bike :p

I know how to maintain my bike. The corrosion is from winter usage, where roadsalt has gotten under the side panels. Every 150 to 200 miles in conditions like that, I completely rinse off the bike to clear salt off the steel, but it seems that I wasn't thorough enough to get to this bit. He said it was also possible that a piece of grit or something had impacted it at some point and caused an imperfection allowing the corrosion to start and spread.
