Hey, you, don't let it get you down. Your parents are just not destined to understand their child. Things have already changed, missy. You get to start a new family and find some comfort in knowing that you've learned enough from your parents to not make the same mistakes.

But these are just words, I know. Feel better, hon!

*hugs*

thanks, hon. it just makes me sad. I'd always hoped I'd be able to have some kind of real relationship with my mom, not something superficial. but I can't discuss anything of substance with her, since she doesn't understand what's important to me, and she probably never will.

It happens. I went through a frustrating thing with my mom last year and I'm still getting flak from it... from her mother. I usually ignore most of my family but that tactic isn't going to work for me when I visit for my youngest brother's graduation party in a couple weeks. I'm sure there will be issues... I just hope I can give as good as I'll get.

Families are tricky things, especially with women. But you have your own life now and you are moving forward. Don't let your mom get you down.

thanks. *points to your icon* that is so true!

I think I just expect too much from my mom. I need to just accept that she can't be the mom I hope her to be. When Hubby and I spawn, I hope to be that kind of mom that my kids would be comfy talking to about real issues in their lives.

Ha ha, yeah. Sometimes it seems that is the way of the world.

You and I both. My mom and I are very different people, a fact I realized as a child. Doesn't make it any easier, though. I have hopes for my spawn with my man as well. *winks* I think the "mother/daughter connection" mindset skipped when I was born... my mom gets along great with her mom, lol.
