Guitars and social media

Two days ago, Alicia asked me pointblank about guitar lessons. She's been itching to learn a new instrument, and her BFF plays bass guitar, so that was the instrument she chose. I called BFF's mom to get the info on her teacher (who I've met, he's great), and discovered he was looking for new students anyway. As of yesterday, I have signed both of ( Read more... )

I've never been able to work out twitter. I have an account, but I never get how to see what everyone else sees...:(

I like LJ or a forum. You can see everything all in a logical place.

I don't like the web interface at all because it lacks the multi-columns that allows me to track everything. If that was all I had to rely on, I'd probably never use it either.

Do you have a column set up to track your @mentions? That column will always show you when someone has replied as long as they include your username in their reply. I had a problem with it crashing a lot too, but the last update seems to have fixed that.

As for tumblr, you just have to follow things you're interested in. For each obsessed fangirl/boy there are some really cool blogs too. I follow a couple of Civil War blogs, Doctor Who and fyeahJossWhedon. But, I have a friend I follow who is into a couple of fandoms I'm not and, Man!, she posts a lot. I have to scroll past a lot of her stuff.

Yep, I have the mention column. The old tweetdeck used to pop up an alert whenever any of the columns updated, but if this one has it, I haven't found it. My problem is that I get into work mode and forget about switching over to look. The pop-ups were ideal because it always came up in front of the corner of the window I was working in so I could tell at a glance whether it was something I needed to go see. It spoiled me, I think.

I think my issue with tumblr is its passivity. It's a viewing platform rather than a back and forth. I know people keep saying they have tumblr conversations but I don't see how they do that without going the whole Disqus route, which just seems like a pain in the butt.

My Tweetdeck has the popups still. I'll look at it when I get on my desktop and see how to turn it on.

When I open Tweetdeck, there is a little drop-down arrow in the right corner of each column. Click on that and there should be an option to turn alerts on or off and whether you want popups, sounds or both.
