In my house, my DVR is never empty. Some shows have a tendency to stack up because we either watch them as a family or it's one of Craig's choices, and his time in front of the TV is limited. That means sometimes we watch things really, really late. It took us a year to watch the House finale. We have the entire last season of Fringe waiting for a ( Read more... )

I actually thought of you when I was looking at the courses last night. It seemed like an ideal opportunity for you, too.

LOL I plan to scroll through later. Really cool. I need to spend less time zoning out watching the television. I took a (not cheap) online course through New School once and it was a blast though there was a lot of interaction online with the students. Corcera I think is another one...

This looks non-threatening though. LO!

There are a bunch of similar programs offered online, so you may be interested in combining them to best meet your interests. The one I'm most familiar with is coursera.org.

And yay, learning!

That's really cool. I passed along the cooking one to my daughter, who wants to have a bakery someday and loves to cook. Don't know if she'll do it for a certificate or just audit (prob., since she's got a full load at college right now)

My husband has been taking on-line technical courses for the past two or three years. He really enjoys them.

I think I will take the Human Evolution course. I have been reading books on the subject for several years.

OMG THAT SOUNDS AWESOME!

also? i think that the questions from your kids are interesting in that they kind of reflect the discourse about knowledge in our country has gotten off track -- the whole degree process ideally should be about getting different kinds of knowledge, not about amassing degrees themselves. I think learning things just because you're interested in them, or they have connections to your work in some way, is actually WAY better.

and OMG HARD DECISIONS. but, you can always go back and take the other ones later?
