in Italy - Lago di Como (Lake Como) and if you have time, swing up to the swiss-italian boarder nearby to Lake Geneva - some of the most intense scenery/nature you will EVER find. I want to move there eventually. I guess alot of american celebrities have homes there... And don't you dare pass up the food in that area, they're all about rissotto, red wine, cheese, and truffles, MMM

And in venice, try to take a boat to the islands or Murano and Burano - murano having the glass blowing (they give demos on it too, it's really neat) and Burano have all that lace, which i guess may be a preference thing, but i really think it's all so amazing.

and don't forget to eat an Italian Pizza Margherita and have some Gelato a pistacchio, my god my god my god, my mouth waters........

I lived in Bonn on a Uni. study abroad for a year - i HIGHLY recommend it.
For visiting, the Rheinland is a fabulous area - taking the train along the Rhein, past all the small villages and towns - SOOOO many castles and such beautiful scenery. If starting north, I'd suggest Aachen (beautiful churches, sculptures in the city, "healing water" and where chocolate first began being divided into squares.) Then I'd say stop in Koln (Cologne) and see the Dom and maybe tour the chocolate factory :). Bonn is pretty, there's a daily market of vegetables and fruits, etc. in the square. Then just head south along the river, stopping as you like. Maybe wander off when the Mosel breaks in and tour wine country and the Eifel region... it's a very laid back region to wander around in. TONS of history and castles and quaint villages. It's my favorite. (Oh - and the Rhein flows North, which is really very cool. And train passes will oftentimes let you on the boat tours down/up river)
