I grew up near Münster, it's a lovely place. Do go and see the Promenade, it's the nicest.
If you're coming from America I suppose you should definitely make the most of your time over here. Not sure about planes (Münster has an airport, but it's absolutely tiny and even the connections to London are abysmal), but there's buses going so you can easily make a short trip there if you really want to.

As for the weather, it's much like the rest of Germany I'd say. As of late it's virtually unpredictable; a few weeks ago it was freezing like hell, this week it's over 20°C. Best thing to do in Germany really is to go for trousers, shirts and cardis - if it suddenly turns summer or winter you can always do last minute shopping there, so go for something safe, some solid middle ground.

Anyway, I hope this helps a little. Have a great time!

Hi thank you for the reply! For short trips would trains be better than buses? Münster sounds lovely, I can't wait to be there. (:

It depends how much of a budget your on, but yes, as long as there's also a train, you should definitely take that over a bus. Much more comfortable and faster, which means you've got more time for the actual trip :) Which places do you wanna go and see?

I only know of the more common tourist attractions in Münster, like the Prinzipalmarkt, Promenade.. well basically everything you can find on the Münster tourist website. I've thought of going earlier to see Paris and dropping by Berlin (since I don't live in Europe and those are kind of must-sees, in a sense) but I'm not sure if time will be an issue. Do you have any other nearby places in mind to recommend? (:
