Take the train! In southern Norway they have good connections. I am not horribly familiar with western Norway (where many of the pretty fjords are) so I couldn't tell you which train would be there best. But they say Raumabanen is really pretty and I think so too. I've only been there in july so I can't say what the weather is going to be like in april.
I went in the summer of 2008 and kayaked through a fjord from Flam. It's a tiny town in which you have to take a special train down a hill into the valley, and there is a cabin type of lodging. It was really beautiful! And all accessible by train.
