Wahington DC = AIDS Capital USA

Dec 01, 2005 13:56

That's a good question. I'm not a "Vereinsmensch" and have some German friends here so I haven't really looked into clubs or other meeting groups here. Generally the Beach Cities seems to have the largest number of Europeans in LA. I know there are some very active Stammtisch type things in San Diego as they keep sending me invitations. I believe there is one in Santa Monica and Santa Barbara too. You may have also heard of the Alpine Village - I go there sometimes for imported groceries and magazines but they also have this cafe and restaurant where I think meetings are held. Have you googled it? There are a bunch of listings here:

If you go to any, I'd love to know how it went. :)

It's probably related to Alpine Village that they're all in one area. 90% of the Europeans I've met here over the years
lived somewhere near the beaches. Where are you again, was it the valley? And yeah, maybe we can do that sometime. I WILL be honest and say I'm not exactly keen on the very idea of "Stammtisch" anything [LoL] but I do understand the notion of wanting to meet "peers" and you never know, maybe it's not what I imagine. ;)

What do you think is the reason DC is "number 1"?

The majority areas of DC is a ghetto and that means poor people, homeless people and such.

Yeah. So it's basically a reflection of what's been said in recent years: no longer a "gay" thing but rather an "everyone" thing, drug use etc not helping the matter.

That's awful.

Don't get mad at me please, I have to say it ... "HIV-Virus" is a bit redundant. ;-)

So that was the 1. December.
We have talked about AIDS...but the Problem is....now it will be silence again.

There is only one day where the people talk about this disease and then forget it for the Rest of the Year.

DANGEROUS THINKING

I'm not happy about that.
:-(

I've seen an old friend and friend's partner die from it so it's personal, at least in a roundabout way. Of course you're right - but so it goes with "World X Day" for anything. I still think it's better if the world is reminded once a year than not at all.
