The ice is mostly melted away, but a surprising number of people around here still have no power.  I was fortunate enough to not lose power during the duration of the ice storm, except for a brief period Thursday morning when I woke up to find my clocks flashing.

When I graduated with my doctorate in 1991, I decided that I was now, officially and without possibility of excuse, a grown-up. Therefore, I resolved to do two things which I had been spotty about before, but which I believe defines grown-up-ness: writing thank-you notes and tipping in restaurants.

You know what the funny thing about that story is...if they weren't going to tip her because it was the "Sabbath" they shouldn't of even gone in there to eat in the first place. If you're going to say "people can't work on the Sabbath" you also have to say, "I'm not going to buy anything on the Sabbath." They go hand in hand.

Of course. DL Moody once walked something like 10 miles on a Sunday to preach at three different churches because he wouldn't ride the rail cars on a Sunday. There's principles, and there's just being a jerk.
