[OPEN] Seeking some closure

Rob put his hand up to his cheek and brushed away the tears that were drying there. And there had been a lot of them. Beside him on the sand sat the pile of documents that had been in the glove compartment of his car, and the keys to it resting on top of divorce notice. He must have been sitting there on the beach a short walk from his and Fox's ( Read more... )

Cuddy was heading back to her bungalow after a long run on the beach for stress relief. She had been surprised how glad she was to be back in her job as the resort manager rather than at the hospital. She enjoyed the change, and in the face of Chase's more than capable running of the Medical Centre here, she didn't miss PPTH half as much as she thought she might have in the early days.

She hadn't quite made it back to her place when she spotted a familiar form sitting on the beach. It was only when she got nearer to him that she realised he was crying, or had been crying. "Rob?" she said, stooping so she could try and see his face better. "Are you okay?"

Rob looked up with a faint smile and nodded. "Yeah, I'm fine, Dr Cuddy," he told her and then had to dip his head to look at the sand with a small laugh. "Actually, I'm not, but I will be. Just thinking things over, trying to deal with it all. You must be glad to be back at your job at the resort."

Cuddy watched him for a moment and then sat down on the sand beside him when he opened the conversation with her. She wouldn't have blamed him if he told her just wanted to be alone. Even ill and feeling terrible, he had still be personable in hospital; polite and friendly. She was relieved House, Chase and team had managed to find the answer so he could have a second chance. "I am," she confirmed with a smile. "So wrapped up I hadn't realised you had been discharged. I thought maybe you just bid your escape when Chase had his back turned. But your IV wounds are all dressed neatly, and you don't have your ID bracelet on, so I'm going to assume you're okay to be here," she laughed softly. "As okay as you can be considering," she added.

Rob turned to her with a smirk, squinting in the late afternoon sunlight. "Escape, huh? I really wish I had thought of that at the time," he joked and then shook his head, flexing his fingers a little at the feel of no IV. "But no, I'm cool to be here. Chase discharged me this morning. Probably for fear I was going to commit grievous bodily harm on his staff. I'd had enough, and I know it's not my call to make medical decisions like that, but I'd rather lie around and recover in my own personal space than in the fish bowl."
