[OTA, TAG CHASE, FOX, ROB] Assumption makes an ass out of you... and some guy named "Umption."

House had been sitting up in his office when his pager went off. It was Chase. He couldn't tell if his page meant Fox was taking Rob off of the life support, or if this meant Rob was awake and dancing on the tables. House was pretty sure the former was going to be the one he was going to have to deal with ( Read more... )

Chase came up beside House, both of them still a safe enough distance away to not intrude on anythign Fox might be trying to say to Rob. He caught the sigh of relief and threw House a small smirk as he folded his arms across his chest. "Is it going to piss you off more that there are no explanations for any of this, or that there isn't a puzzle to solve anymore?" he asked.

"And I'm supposed to just take your word as Gospel? You're House, not God. I thought we already established the soldier was God?" Chase joked. "I'm not talking about back there and the sooner you realise you're here, and not there, the better for us all. I'm who I am here, and that's all I give a snot about right now. Temporary or not, it's real, and I like it. I'm not going to start banging my head against walls, electrocuting myself, or OD'ing on drugs to find the answer. You can be satisfied or you can't... I'm going with satisfied. It's so much more fun. Less isolating."

House watched the couple for a moment, his brow crumpled in thought. He sighed through his nose, turning to Chase. "Maybe Superman. Never God," he joked back. It was hard to argue. Chase had pretty much proved to House he could hold his own here, whether House liked it or not. It was the whole reason House had fired him in the first place. There was nothing more to teach him.

"You still like beer, or did your drink preference go from pint to pussy when you started switch hitting?"

Chase sniggered. "I don't think he would pull off the spandex suit," he decided. "Now I'm wondering if you have been staring at his arse," he had to add, amused.

"Started? I've been switch hitting since I was sixteen," he revealed, throwing House a look. "I told you there was a lot you don't know about me. Give me a six pack over a friggen snot green cocktail with an umbrella and whistles any day. Any drink that's got to be handled that much before serving is nothing I want a part of. Still, a good way to get rapidly sloshed," he shrugged.

"Seriously?" House gave him a look. "I'm sure the stories are even better after I'm far too drunk to remember them," he admitted. So... Maybe Chase was kind of different here. Perhaps it would work in House's favor to give him a shot... not that he would ever want to admit it, at least openly. He had his ways.

"... You hungry?"

Chase nodded and then raised his eyebrows mischievously. "Asking me on a date, House?" he asked in amusement.

"Not quite. Merely testing the waters," House threw back, giving Chase a wink as he turned to leave. "Need to make sure you don't have any disgusting eating habits and aren't an abusive drunk before I consider an actual date. Domestic violence is too common these days to take a chance. I'm fragile."
