Looks like a long, good essay. I'll have to read it when I'm not sleepy... I've already read some arguments about this on meta_fandom. :shakes head: Why are we (collectively) still so stupid about race? Look at the popularity of Star Trek, execs! Not everyone is white in ST!

I'm not sure ST is the best counterclaim. To be well done, Avatar shouldn't have any white characters, especially not the leads - and that's exactly what the creators failed to do. The did cast PoC - in the background and as the villains.

I dunno why racism is so entrenched, but it is. At least institutional racism. :(
