Christ esteem is knowing about our failings and knowing that God loves us anyway and always will. Our correct attitude is to be joyful over being forgiven and humble because we're still sinners.
Generally the difference is between looking inwards, and looking outwards. There was more to it, but I cannot recount the whole of it to you.
There were also some stats done by secular organisations about it and they showed that having high self esteem doesn't automatically equate to a healthy and happy society. In fact, people with high self esteem and more likely to experiment with drugs/alcohol/sex and more likely to be flippant of others.
