I had to go see Inception since I was starting to be casually spoiled for it across social networking platforms.

From Ebert's review: "There's a human tendency to resent anyone who disagrees with our pleasures. The less mature interpret that as a personal attack on themselves." I respect this fellow and his writing quite often.

And my casual thoughts on the film... )

it's ok to call dom leo, dream a little dream

I would've gone last week, or even this weekend, but the fucking utterly disgusting weather would've caused me to horribly slaughter anyone who so much as breathed too loudly. It was safer for everyone for me to hide out at home, in the dark, with the a/c cranked to hell.

FUCK YOU SUMMER YOU ARE REVOLTING

Blah blah blah, come back tomorrow and we can discuss important matters.

I never liked him, but this movie changed my mind.

Mostly though I was all- HELLOOOOO Joseph Gordon Levitt. Who saw you coming, little man??

I would be lying if I claim other than the fact that I think CM might actually be human he is so attractive.

I think you're forgetting the most important parts of this film.

Namely Joseph Gordon-Levitt wearing form-fitting pants and Tom Hardy's lips.

JGL will always be 12 to me, so there is no appeal except in that he's a swell actor.

Well, yes, I do remember him from 3rd Rock, but he's grown up REALLY well. I'm pretty sure a lot of my appreciation for him started when he was making out with guys in the movie Mysterious Skin.

This right here. He was always adorable to me (3rd Rock, 10 Things), but then he did Mysterious Skin and Brick and he grew up hard, then he did (500) Days of Summer and I bought him as a romantic lead I want to be with.

In short, him in suits = better than a lot of porn.

I've been giving this some thought (har har). I don't see why it has to be his dream. Haven't you ever dreamed you were yourself but you were actually someone else? Like how you're in "your house" but it's totally not anywhere you've ever lived? This would explain why we see action he's not directly involved in, like the kicks.

The beautiful part of removing the dream from Dom is that it could be anyone's dream. Shit, it could be Barack Obama's dream!

If I wrote fanfic anymore, I'd write a story about it being Ariadne's dream which reflects her imposter syndrome since she made the unattainable man absolutely unattainable by giving him a dead wife and a guilt complex about causing her death.

That's just ONE example.

We're just supposed to casually accept this shared dreaming and a whole underground culture surrounding it without explanation down to the fact that there are substance abusers and Dom's father in law appears to teach its tenants at some unnamed college in what appeared to vaguely be France. ? Sounds like dream logic to me.

Ahahaha, TRUE.

I'm reserving sticking to one theory until I've seen it at least one more time, perhaps two. Although, I will say that there HAS to be something to the whole "le gasp don't tell anyone what your totem is except for the whole part where Dom TOLD ARIADNE HOW HIS TOTEM WORKS!!!" thing. Or.....idk. Ugh, Mr. Nolan, WHAT DOES IT ALL MEEEAAAAN? D:

Other than that, I thought it was fucking fantastic. And it's now inspired me to write fic, for the first time in like...three years. Which is impressive. Two for you, Mr. Nolan!

There is also the whole fine point put on the fact that if you can't explain how you got to a certain place/time then you're dreaming, which is exactly how the movie starts with Arthur and Dom suddenly several places.
