I will squee in a second. First, though, Ima bitch a bit.
I really really hate "Judeo-Christian" as a term. For many reasons, the least of which is not that it's a neologism (not recent) concocted as a propaganda tool used by Christians to further co-opt a whole other religion into justifying the existence of their own. That doesn't even get into the antisemitic origins of the term.
Why I dislike the use of the word in this show in particular: this thing here called the internet. All someone has to do is google something to find out about it. No one could have done that as they were shaping up this plot arc? At all?
And the reason I bring that up is that angels and the whole angelic mythos aren't exclusively "Judeo-Christian." Before I bust out with words such as Zoroastrianism or Babylonian exile, how about I start with one that's not quite so obscure: Islam. WTFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF!
Hey y'all, lolwut?
I know it probably wasn't on their minds since there aren't any Muslims in Vancouver...
Normally I would just handwave this and say from the moment it flits across my screen "oh well, they're too ignorant to work this out, I'll just fix it in my head." But they took the time to make Gabriel Loki and couldn't just leap frog over the Christianity aspects by making the whole concept redundant by actually saying "this god is the god of all these other religions, too" ?? Arg. This shit better happen. FIREBOMB is alls I'm sayin' here.
I'm sure they thought they were being diverse to even sort of kinda mention Judaism. BUT ONLY AS THE PRECURSOR TO CHRISTIANITY.
Look, I'm an atheist and I'm not really into the Sky Bully anyway, but why do people have to be so damned ignorant? What percentage of the world's population is effected by one of the big three "monotheism" (what a laughable term)? No one can pick up a damned book (there's a fucking ap for that, ok?)? The poetic nature of this is not lost on me.
I also hate the use of the word pagan by people talking about Christianity. Wtf makes your religion so much righter/better? The fact that you have a book? You stole it! Pagan is a pejorative word that always implies the inherent betterness of this other correct religion.
Whatever, carry on. The next post will be about how hot Jared is.
