So, I was talking to my friend about what I find unsatisfying about SGA stories, and what the mainly boils down to is how all the stories about love or romance or sexual relationships that are about love. In some fandoms, that works for me (see: SV where I really would prefer to read a story where Chloe falls in love, which is sort of weird, but

Oh, what a lovely character study!!!! the story's so evocative and for Ronon to have these near lyrical thoughts...fable like and oral narrative but very deep nevertheless. very nice! thank you!!!

I would like to pretend that Ronon thinks like this and that Sateda was full of open fields full of crocus-like flowers and that the people holidayed in the country in stone houses built into hills--in the traditional way because they magnetism in the rocks and hillside prevented the Wraith from sensing them--and they wore bright colors to blend in with the flowers.

Wow, I really like this. It makes a lot of sense, and it's nice to see a story that explores a character. The last paragraph is lovely.

Seriously, there's some incredible SGA gen out there. It just doesn't get recced as hard. ltlj's Retrograde kicks tail, and miss-porcupine's gen mission fics rock my socks. A number of good slash writers are also writing gen, or at least mostly plot with very little sex stories. Just post a plea for recs, and you'll be innundated.
