Oh, thank you so much for this birthday ficlet! What a wonderful surprise- I know Sam and Dean are new territory for you in terms of writing, even though you enjoy reading/watching in the SPN fandom.

Dean wanted so badly for things to go back to the way they were. Sam couldn't bring himself to change it.
I really liked the way this turned at the end. There's the possibility, all through the earlier part, that what Sam's afraid of is that he loves Dean too much or too wrongly. But with this ending (and the lines before it), we see instead that Sam finds it too hard to keep Dean this close after knowing the pain of losing him, and yet he'll keep on doing it anyway because Dean still wants that.

I know Sam and Dean are new territory for you in terms of writing
But I do love a challenge =). And they are quite the compelling pair. Plus, there were a few looks that Sam gave Dean (in that particular episode, even) that just scream "I love you in that not-brotherly way." Of course, I also have experience writing everybody's other favorite brothercest pairing, so that's obviously not much of a squick for me.
