Budget fury

Well, it isn't surprising that the latest Irish budget is harsh and unfair, but it still makes my blood boil. I loathe cuts in social welfare, and the cynicism and arrogance of politicians who make them, taking advantage of the traditionally weak voice that recipients have in society

What worries me is that I see it more and more from people that I used to classify as 'our people', if you know what I mean. SF fans, identifying themselves as left-wing, championing the poor in the third world (which is of course a good thing to do), Europeans (no offense, but Yanks are known for being like this), but their own poor are poor because they are stupid or lazy or greedy (!!) or just generally deserving of their state.

Gah! *head bang* I get angry just thinking about it.

The same over here in the states... the rich get richer and the middle class disappears just a bit more.
The poor get poorer...so many of them already on the streets.

I worry the most for the elderly and families with young children.
