Some concerns over Torchwood Day Three

Jul 11, 2009 02:52

I feel bad for being neglectful of the 'Woodies on my flist and posting mostly about AI on what is essentially TORCHWOOD EPIC WEEK (the end of which is IN AN HOUR, OMG), but since I'm basically always an episode behind everybody else (more or less), I've just stayed out of my flist completely and ventured only in AI comms.

Have just finished Day ( Read more... )

Just finished Day Three, minutes ago, and will be off to see Day Four. I never ever expected to say that, but Torchwood, after two seasons which I watched because....ok, I give up, there was no reason for me to watch it really, as I considered it a one huge botched opportunity, has now become brilliant. Stuff I did not like got cut off the show and the new long arc and pacing and, OMG BRILLIANT.

And I need another fandom like we need the 456......

I was wondering if Torchwood would ever live up to its promise, and while there were some gems in the last two seasons, there was also an awful amount of fail. I followed Captain Jack to TW from Doctor Who, and I've been a lot more forgiving about the show than I normally would be for TV shows. That said, yeah I was concerned that, like you said, it'd end up being a wasted opportunity (especially with some people wondering if the shortened season heralds The End).

But now I'm just... in a constant state of OMG, really. I've been spoiled by American shows and mourn the small number of episodes, but if this is the quality we get out of it then I fully support TW following this format from here on out. Much better than having to cringe through whole episodes.

W00T, OFF TO SEE DAY FOUR!

That about sums it up, with far more fail than gems. I came to Torchwood because the internet seemed to love it and until now I failed to see why it was so.

Season 3 is, well, it's like a whole other show, isn't it? What have they done, sacked all former writers? I don't know if this is an unpopular fannish opinion, but the trimming down of the team to the essential 3 plus Rhys was just about the best thing they could do. Plus getting rid of the lameness and giving us more Ianto. I can't resist a man in a vest.

I've just finished Day Four and I don't think I have ever been this impatient about a show finale in my life. And if anyone spoils me I will throw them into the box with the 456 :D
