[Frequently Asked Questions]

- Regarding Journals.

The usage of the character journal will vary for each AU, depending on capability. For example, in a modern universe, Internet journals can have voice posts and video posts, and you can send texts and make phone calls. In the 1700s though, the best you could have is an open book with scratches and limitations. This will be addressed with every change of AU.

- Regarding Plot.

Plot in this RP is mostly player driven. We mods are only here to set up the worlds, help you along the way, and make this difficult for everyone.

- Will AU's repeat?

Depending on the popularity and success of a certain AU, they may repeat every so often. That means you may want to keep tabs on each AU history you make, since it may come back.

- Premise

The premise is that your character has been pulled into an abandoned, decrepit city on the edge of the universe where reality and time are unstable and constantly changing. The AU shifts every 6 weeks or so, changing the world around them as well as their lives and memories.

- So, the universe keeps changing. What about my characters memories?

Your characters memories change to fit the universe while still being their memories and their past. Their real memories are still there, hidden, and only come forth when the city's energy grows weak and the real world shows its face again. In those situations, they remember everything.

- What about character relationships? Do they change too?

Only as much as you want them to. These are your characters, the only rule is that the relationships established remain established, just altered. The world is the same after all, only what you know, see, feel and experience is different. This may require some additional plotting between players, but we encourage camaraderie and plotting, especially player-driven plots!

- Are there any banned characters?

Yes. Characters that break the fourth wall or are Gods/Deities are not allowed unless you can come up with a seriously convincing argument. That means people likeDeadpool from Marvel and Beelzebub from Good Omens wouldn't be allowed. Characters that time travel like the Doctor (Doctor Who) and characters who never die likeAziraphale (Good Omens) need be consulted with the mods before apping. That's where things get complicated.

- I have no idea what Blackadder is! Does it matter?

Not in the slightest. The only reason Blackadder is mentioned is to give those who DO know what it is a better idea of what's going on. The only similarity this game has with Blackadder is the basis of the premise, which is explained.

- What if my character, in an alternate universe, meets people he/she knows from his/her own universe?

Unless you and the other player have plotted something out, your character wouldn't remember them. This does not include interactions made while in the world, because once the two have met in the city, they will always know each other.

- Is there an age limit for applying?

You have to be 16 or older to apply.

- Will we have to write a new app every time an AU happens?

No. We're going by the honor system that if you were accepted, we expect you can do it right. It's why we ask for three different histories in your application, so we know you're capable with your character. We would prefer that you wrote out their history for us, as a point of reference for both yourself and other players, as that is the history you will be sticking with for the duration of the new universe, but this is only a strong suggestion.

We suggest writing a history for yourself, though its not required. Feel more than free to discuss with mods if you want, and don't take it personally if we question something you decided, but if it does end up becoming out of hand, we may end up requiring writing the histories each time and consulting the mods. We don't want to do that, it's a pain for everyone, please don't make us do it.

- My character has powers, what do I do?

As stated in the application, if your character has powers they will only manifest in appropriate AUs. This doesn't mean, though, that their bodily functions will change. For example, if your character is normally a speedster, he/she will not be inhumanly fast, but will be quicker on his/her feet than most, and bodily functions like fast metabolisms will remain.

- What if most people don't like the AU being used?

If a particular universe isn't working, we're flexible and can return back to the base world. However, as future alternate universes are determined by popular vote, we hope this will never be an issue. :)

- Will in-depth explanations be given, or do we need to understand each world?

In-depth explanations of each AU and it's capabilities will most definitely be given at the appropriate times. This will be in mod posts and announcements in theOOC community.

- Do I need to make a new character journal?

You don't need one, but we would prefer it. It makes things less complicated for everyone. If you intend on using an older journal, do keep on top of separating Edge of Eternity posts from other unrelated ones.

- Do I need a PB?

It is not required, but if you're using a character from a video game or an animated show/movie, we strongly recommend it. It helps put all characters on the same plane. This doesn't mean you can't use original icons of them as well, but please have at least one real representation. Please also keep in mind that some actors have played roles that people will be applying for. If the situation comes up, we may ask you to change your PB, so we suggest avoiding the use of sci-fi/fantasy/popular TV actors. Again, it is not required, but recommended.

- Are multiple, alternate versions of played characters allowed?

No.

- My character is an animal/Robot/Alien/does not look human! What do I do?

In cases such as this, your character will adapt based on the universe. In the City on the Edge, they will remain the same as they normally appear, but in the alternate universes, their appearance will change. In cases such as this, we require a PB (played by) in order to provide a visualization for your character's humanoid appearance.

- What if the character's memories are important to that character BEING that character?

The memories of your character only change to fit the universe. They can and should still be in the same vein that would keep the character in character. It all depends on how different you're comfortable making the history while keeping themIC.

- What's the deal with the base world?

The base world is what the city really is, abandoned and decrepit. Every so often the illusion and shift in reality ceases, bringing everyone back to the city. Only here will they remember everything; who they really are and all the universes they encountered.

- How did my character get here?

No one really knows. Though, if your character can find the time between the reality shifts, they could always take a look for themselves...

- Are Real People/Bandom allowed?

No. Sorry.

- What happens when my character first arrives?

If your character first arrives in an AU, they experience their real lives as a dream that is quickly forgotten due to the power of the city. If they arrive during a period in the base world, they will be entirely themselves in a mysterious place.

- Are original characters allowed?

No, sorry.
