A ten-step tutorial.

We shall go from this to

1.

Take the image of your choice - hires = better. I've used this image. Crop it. Don't be boring with the cropping. Add interest.

2.

Here I've just sharpened the base. I prefer unsharp mask; fiddle around with the settings. Really makes the image pop. Normal sharpening is fine and, on lower quality images, often better.

3.

Duplicate the base layer and set to 'soft light'. Fiddle with the opacity if you wish but I like the dramatic effect.

4.

A basic exclusion layer with #0d1739 is purdy-enducing but you can skip this.

5.

Colour burn with #596471 at a very low opacity for this layer. I used 16 and it's a bit strong.

6.

Duplicate the soft light layer and drag it to the top. Fiddle with the opacity. Trust me when I say bold is beautiful; sometimes, anyway.

7.

Merge all the layers because here comes the fun part. See this colour balance? Good. Click on it.

Highlights: 69 / 62 / 14
Midtones: -72 / -20 / 67
Shadows: 13 / 10 / 48

8.

Fiddly old me then puts a layer of #c7b299 on 20% multiply just because it softens the skin a bit.

9.

I used the font 'Decker' at size 5 I believe to write 'beauty'. High kerning is advised at such a small size. Then I used the same font size 1 for a tiny text splosh below it. Coloured from a paintdropper sample from her cheek. Fonts should always match the icon.

10.

Finally. Use whatever final effects you wish for et voila. Magnifique.

Lemme know if it helped you. :D:D
