JaeJoong and Yunho both took a couple days off from work the following week to make up for their lost days together. JaeJoong woke up bright and early the next morning to bring Yunho breakfast in bed, along with a brief kiss on his lips that were slightly parted as he got up from his sleep.
After breakfast, the two got dressed and ready to go out, but where exactly was the question that plagued JaeJoong’s mind.
“Where are we going?” he whined in the car. “Yunho, can you tell me please~?”
At this rate Yunho knew for sure that if JaeJoong kept hanging on his arm and pouting at him like that while he was driving then he was sure to ruin the surprise.
“Just wait a couple more minutes Jae, we’re almost there.”
“But I need to know now” he said caressing his inner thighs slowly. Yunho swallowed hard as he tried to concentrate back on the road.
He didn’t know how he did it (especially with JaeJoong constantly rubbing against him), but he finally made it to their destination and opened the car door for him and helped him out.
“Here we are” he said and JaeJoong looked around to see where they were.
“The beach?” he questioned oddly.
“Yeah, I thought we could spend the rest of the day here if you’d like. Unless, you’d rather go back home -“
He shook his head, “n-no, here’s fine.”
“Why do you sound disappointed?”
“I’m not, I guess …”
“… You were kinda hoping for something better maybe?” JaeJoong nodded.
“Well, maybe next time we can go on a long vacation together somewhere far away, but right now I want to spend time with you here, just the two of us.”
He smiled, “ok.”
---
“Hey Jae, wanna go in the water for a little while?”
When Yunho turned to look at him, his expression changed as he saw JaeJoong sleeping soundly besides him.
Not giving a care if people were watching them or not, he gently rolled over on top of him and whispered, “If you want, we can give the people what they want to see here for free.”
JaeJoong shuffled in his sleep mumbling, “And what’s that?”
“Oh you know” he continued as he slid his hand down between his trunks and underwear, “something that involves this.” He then began leaving butterfly kisses down his neckline, occasionally nipping on his smooth flesh.
“Don’t!” he shouted as he pushed Yunho off to the side and sat up abruptly.
He chuckled, “relax Jae, I was only joking. Now c’mon, let’s go swim.”
He yawned, “But I’m still half asleep. What happens if I drown while I swim?”
“I’ll be right next to you, and I promise I won’t let you drown as long as I’m there.”
JaeJoong smiled before standing up with him and running off towards the vast ocean.
---
After about two and a half hours of swimming, they both got out of the water, cold and wet. They wrapped their towels around their waists to keep them warm and sat back down on the hot, grainy sand. JaeJoong sat between Yunho’s legs and the two watched the sun go down in the peace of the moving waters surrounding them.
“I had fun today” JaeJoong told him. “Your idea of coming here was a great idea.”
Yunho smiled and slid his arms around his waist, “That’s good, but you know, I’m kinda sad.”
JaeJoong turned to face him, “sad? Why?”
“I’ve always wanted to go clam hunting with you, but I didn’t bring it up until now because I thought you might refuse the idea.”
“Clam hunting?” he repeated.
“Yeah, especially those pretty shiny silver ones. Those suckers are buried in the sand somewhere, and ever since I was a little kid I never found any of those kinds before.”
“Never?”
Yunho shook his head.
“Well, maybe I can help you look for them.”
“Really, are you sure, because I don’t want to force you to do it if you don’t want to?”
“No, it’s alright. Its sounds fun anyways.”
“It is fun” he said as they threw their towels aside and began digging in the sand.
JaeJoong found a couple of brown ones, but not any silver clams. The sun was almost completely gone now and he didn’t want to disappoint Yunho, so he kept on searching.
When it was too dark to see anymore, he finally admitted defeat.
“Did you find any?” Yunho asked.
“No” he said sadly, shaking his head from side to side.
“Oh well, it’s ok because I found one” he said as he brought it out from behind his back and showed it to him.
“Wow, it really is pretty” JaeJoong said admiring it in his hands.
“Let’s go to dinner now, I’m starving” he said and placed his arm around JaeJoong’s waist. Yunho led him towards the bathroom for a change of clothes before heading out for a bite to eat.
---
They drove to a small restaurant down south, not far from the beach they were just at. Very few people were there for dinner, but at least it wasn’t too crowded either.
The table was decorated with a small vase and a red rose in the center, surrounded by two plates, glasses, silverware sets, and napkins.
The waiter came and poured red wine in both of their glasses. When he left, the two made a toast and clanked their cups together and took a sip of the drink.
For the most part, dinner was pretty quiet, but no one was complaining. Yunho still had the clam he found earlier at the beach on the table near him. After eating their main courses, he excused himself to go the bathroom for a few minutes.
JaeJoong eyed the clam carefully. It really did look beautiful in terms of color and shape. Unknowingly, he reached out for it and opened it slowly. What he saw made him catch his breath for a few minutes until he was brought back to reality when the waiter came and handed him a bouquet of white and red roses.
He placed the clam back down and grasped the card that was neatly tucked in between the roses. He smiled gleefully as he read,
JaeJoong-ah,
Do you believe in love at first sight? Because when I first saw you, I knew I was going to love you forever.
A simple kiss can make a forever love, and a forever love brings millions of those kisses.
I love you; these three words could change our lives forever, but for you, I'm willing to take that chance.
Life isn't always a fairy tale, but with you, I'm bound to have a happy ending.
Please make my dreams of being with you forever come true, right here, right now ...
~ Yunho^^
“Jae?”
He spun around at the sound of the voice with tears in his eyes. There was Yunho, holding the ring that was hidden in the clam all this time, down on his knees.
“I love you JaeJoong, so much that it hurts. I don’t want to be just your boyfriend anymore; I want to be something more. I want you not only to see me as someone who you just love, but also as someone who you can trust to keep you safe forever and who you can picture in your life ten, twenty, maybe even thirty years from now. Will you … marry me?”
JaeJoong was bawling his eyes out now, but he let Yunho slip the ring on his finger and answered, “Yes, I will. I love you too Yunho.”
Everyone in room clapped and cheered for the two as Yunho rose from the floor and planted a promising kiss on JaeJoong’s lips.
This was only the beginning, who knew what tomorrow would bring for them?
---
One year later …
“Is she asleep yet?” Yunho asked as JaeJoong entered the living room and plopped down on the couch besides him.
“Yeah, finally. I was beginning to think she was only crying because she hates me so much.”
“She can never hate you, you’re her mother.”
“Not her real mother.”
“You know what I mean. We’ve been taking care of her ever since she was born, so she has that sense of being around you all the time to know that you’re her mother.”
He yawned tiredly, “I guess so.”
“… Do you hear that?”
“Hear what?”
“Exactly, you hear nothing right? It’s the most peace and quiet we’ve had for weeks now.”
“Let’s make the most of it then. If she wakes up you know we won’t go to sleep for another five hours or so.”
“What time is it?”
“Almost four in the morning.”
Yunho let out a groan. “C’mon, let’s go to bed.”
They held hands as they traveled up the stairs to the bedroom. As JaeJoong peered inside the room to make sure their baby girl was ok, he realized that was a very bad move.
She woke up and began crying again as he stepped back and the floor creaked beneath him. He himself felt like crying with their daughter.
“Go, I’ll take care of her this time” Yunho told him.
“You sure you can handle it?”
“Yeah, I’m sure, now go get some sleep.”
And with that, he pecked his lips gratefully as he skipped towards the bedroom and shut the door closed.
“Now, let’s see” Yunho said as he lifted her out of her crib and examined her everywhere, “where’s you’re off button.”
