WOW. This is horror in the truest sense of the word. I could feel my own lungs filling with water as I read it. Excruciatingly painful, and terribly beautiful. Terrific job!

Love this, especially the way you contrasted waking and dreaming moments, and him wanting to seek refuge in even the darker ones because awake was still more painful.
