...I think I just died.

Even after reading your fics, I was not prepared for this one.

Matt. Bonnie. The idyllic lives they represent, they want for Elena -- everything that doesn't happen.

Caroline. Second favourite. Plucking up her courage and being there for Elena anyway because this is what friends are for.

Jeremy needing his family alive.

Damon who can't let go of his romantic side, however screwed up it really is. Damon who has to have Stefan being happy, somewhere, for him to be happy.

All these ideas, subverted so deeply.

But Stefan's, Elena's parents' and what Elena gets -- those made he start tearing up.

AND THEN IT WAS OVER.

ELENA WAS HAPPY.

SHE'LL STILL WALK ON THE EARTH

Words cannot describe how much I adored those lines. Definitely memming this for future rereads.

The really important part of the one with Matt is that Elena never wanted that. She wants more what she had with Bonnie - we'll figure it out. BUT ELENA DOESN'T GET WHAT SHE WANTS.

SHE JUST GETS TO DIE AND BECOME A VAMPIRE. AND CAUSE EVERYONE SHE LOVES TO DIE AROUND HER.

I like Carolines most. That dispite always feeling second best she would still persevere. She doesn't give up. Very in character.
Damon's line about wanting Stefan to be happy rang very true, especially as he hasn't figured out a way for it to happen.
