Please the king.'>
Behind every lesson with his grandmother was the core of Subaru's existence:
Please the king.
-
"I don't recall giving you permission to be out here," Seishirou said lightly as he ran his fingers through Subaru's hair.
"I didn't know I wasn't to leave the room, Seishirou-san," Subaru said.
Seishirou yanked Subaru's head back hard and stared at him. Subaru submitted quietly to the punishment until tears built up behind his eyes and he remembered his grandmother's words about showing remorse.
When Seishirou pulled his head back more, Subaru whimpered.
-
His presence is dominating, demanding. Punishment for stepping out of bounds is swift and painful.
As quickly as the blows come, he learns.
-
A whisper in his ear; "Dance."
"I don't know how," Subaru admitted. There was no reason for him to learn to because there was only one place he was to know how to move.
Seishirou laughs against his jaw. The tone is dark, but Subaru can only think of how the breath on his skin makes him shiver.
Seishirou grabs Subaru's wrists and firmly sets them on his hips. "I'll teach you, then."
-
He hears whispers around the castle of how good the king is supposed to be in bed. A woman is never left wanting should he chose to bestow his attention on her; nor a man.
Subaru wonders if they give as much back to him.
-
"What would you do for me, Subaru-kun?"
Subaru wants to curl up under the covers and never get up, but he's long since learned to ignore the voice in his head that has desire. "Anything you want."
Seishirou kissed him on the lips in a shallow manner in a way that reminded Subaru of being rewarded for behaving as a child. Thoughtfully, he said, "I don't think Subaru-kun would do anything unkind."
It's not Subaru's place to disagree.
-
Subaru never asked why the king wanted him and it never occurred for him to do so until the night he first slept in Seishirou's bed and found he could not sleep.
-
"You're hurt," Subaru said, kneeling before Seishirou to examine the wound on his leg better.
"That isn't your place," Seishirou's tone is sharp, frustrated and when Subaru looks up at him, his eyes are flashing.
"I know," Subaru said swallowing slightly. "But I still want to help."
Without warning, Seishirou pushed him on his back and straddled his left thigh. The kiss that came to him soon after was more teeth than lips.
-
The only time Subaru sees Seishirou kill is when Seishirou is killing someone for touching Subaru.
-
Subaru stays very still as Seishirou gently brushes his thumb across his cheek.
"Blood looks good on you, Subaru-kun."
"I didn't want him to die." Subaru can no longer stand to look at Seishirou, so he averts his eyes.
Seishirou grabs a handful of his hair and jerks his head so that Subaru was facing him and his smile is like ice when Subaru yelps slightly. "I wonder," he says quietly as pulls Subaru's head towards him so that there were only a few centimeters between their faces, "how long you'll stay kind while you're with me."
-
The last thing Subaru's grandmother tells him is:
Please the king without losing yourself.
