(now actually crossposted from tumblr, where I originally was when I actually thought about ~communicating~ with people instead of failing at everything. Sigh. I'd say that more than the other 90% of my brain was full of curds and whey but SEE POST TITLE *craves ( Read more... )

I switched to soy milk in my tea years ago, because I may have to do without Brie in my life, but I'm not capable of functioning without TEA!

But "soy cheese" is just another name for rubber. :-(

It is strong flavoured, and that flavour is ORANGE and REGRET.
It's funny because it's TRUE. I agree with mergatrude that soy milk is quite lovely in tea and coffee.

Have you tried goat cheese as an alternative?

I had a bad reaction to feta a few weeks back, but I'm hoping that was more of a threshold reaction than a specific hypersensitivity, because I was also reacting to things that I know I'm normally fine with. I'm enjoying the lactase-treated milk I've got, and am also a fan of rice milk for my drinks and hazelnut for in my coffee (mmm instant flavoured coffee).

My mom is an on-again off-again vegan, and last time I was home she made a cheese substitute that actual tasted good. It doesn't taste exactly like cheese, but it does taste like creamy fatty salty yumminess, so I would recommend it. It mainly involves cashews and nutritional yeast: http://mylifeinapyramid.com/2011/04/vegan-cashew-cheese-recipe-tastes-just-like-boursin/

I can totally sympathise on the fake-stuff-doesn't-taste-right front.

Though I have now discovered the secret to good sugar free hot chocolate - it is called Green and Black's Cocoa Powder - nom.

Having to cut yummy stuff out of your diet really, really sucks - but at least you get the side effect of feeling better! That's got to count for something, right?

This is day 33 of no sugar and counting - and it's getting easier. As the number gets bigger, the memory of chocolate starts to fade, and the face-palmery of having to go back to zero starts to outweigh the temptation... Or so I keep telling myself...
