Yes, that's just what unemployment is for. You weren't fired, you were laid off. And you didn't quit. I would go for the whole month, just in case anybody tries to dispute it, but I doubt they will. Save all emails, etc. for documentation. You probably won't need it, but just in case... I don't know about your state in particular, but I've collected under almost exactly those circumstances.
If you know what your end date is, you can file for unemployment benefits. Being terminated early out of a contract should not affect your eligibility.
