Isn't it some sort of natural law that northwest America is completely covered in snow from about October onwards? I only lived in Oregon for a year and thus saw but a single winter, but I remember hells of snow.
Either Oregon is in another dimension, or you lived there during an unnaturally snowy year. The Seattle area usually gets a couple of inches of snow max, and not until late December or early January. Although none of the snow from yesterday stuck (it's all melted this morning), getting any this early in the year is a bit unusual.
