I wrote this when I got home last night at about 12:30, because my laptop seemed to think it was connected to the internet. When I tried to post it, however, my computer admitted that it seemed to have mislaid the internets it had previously assured me were present. I haven't seen any of series 3 yet (BitTorrent has packed up on my PC at the moment, and I'm fucked if I'm waiting until friggin' March for it to air over here, as is rumoured - series 2 only finished here a couple of weeks ago), but has Hurley vanished entirely, or are you just confused by him not being with Jack, Sawyer et al?

Because if that's the case, I should remind you that Hurley's "task," as assigned by the Others, was to return to the camp and tell his compatriots never to come looking for them again. Maybe he's just wanderin' around in the jungle, like. He's not demonstrated a particularly excellent sense of direction previously (see his attempt to find the secret beach Sayid mentioned on his picnic-date with Libby); maybe that's why the Others chose him for that role? So he'd spend ages wandering around the jungle on his own, getting increasingly frightened and desperate, so he'd be a proper wreck when he got back to the camp, thus lending his warning an extra frisson of naked terror?

I dunno.

I need to watch some ( ... )

Yeah, that was a big facepalm. I had totally forgotten everything that happened in the last episode of season 2.

Good theory on why they chose Hurley, though.
