This is your moment of "the fuck?" for today:
A 15-year-old popsinger/Nickelodeon mouthpiece named Emma Roberts covered Jill Sobule's "Mexican Wrestler" on her new album. First of all, that's a random Jill Sobule song to pick. Second of all, the lyrical changes are RETARDED.

Because it's a cover (licensed by the original artist and no doubt getting said artist a substantial amount of money) sang by a 15 year old girl who doesn't want to reference a. being over 21 and b. going home to fuck someone to make her boyfriend jealous.

Why is this an issue?

Be that as it may, the change from "as well as your buddy's" to "and your friends would love me" is, I think, incontrovertible balls (ooh, band name). There's nothing overtly sexual or otherwise unsafe-for-teh-kiddies about the original line, far as I can tell, and the replacement scans pretty clumsily in comparison.

Tch. Young people.

It's a song that I consider close to my heart, and it bugs me when I hear a really crap cover of it. Even if Jill Sobule ok'd it and is making money off it, that doesn't change that I consider the song partly mine, as people often do with great works of art, and so I'm bothered when I see it, in my eyes, being disrespected.
